How does VIDA support volunteers?

The VIDA Program provides the following support for volunteers

  • Pre-Departure Briefing (PDB)
  • Pre-departure medical examination and vaccinations
  • Comprehensive insurance (travel/medical/professional)
  • Travel to your host country and back to Australia
  • In-Country support from the In-Country Manager (ICM)
  • Regional support from the Regional Manager (RM)

Volunteer Allowances

VIDA allowances have been determined following significant consultation in country and against an agreed formula. These allowances are intended to cover costs associated with living a modest life whilst undertaking your assignment. VIDA allowances differ from country to country and are reviewed twice a year. Significant changes in the cost of living as a result of external factors (such as high inflation levels, currency fluctuations) can result in changes to VIDA allowances.

The VIDA Program provides the following allowances:
  • Living and Accommodation Allowances
  • Settlement Allowance
  • Resettlement Allowance
  • Assignment Support Allowance (by application)
  • Language Allowance

Other than my time, what does it cost?

We understand the commitment that you're making becoming a volunteer, so while you are responsible for obtaining and maintaining an appropriate visa for the duration of your assignment (including fees) and paying for any excess baggage fees, VIDA pays for all other costs, including airfares, accommodation and living allowances.
